“With your donation, we have launched a boys’ shelter”

Carillon Children Center sought to set up facilities separating boys and girls at their shelter and through in part the generous donation of FIT For Charity Run, a boys’ shelter was launched in March 2009.

Carillon Children’s House was established as the first children’s shelter in Japan by Carillon Children Center in March 2006. With a focus on nurturing self-reliance, the Center now hosts facilities for both boys and girls, respectively known as Carillon Door’s House (TOBIRA no IE) and Carillon Sunset Villa (Yuyake So).

Carillon Children Center’s Ms. Karin Tsuboi said, “These boys have been mistreated over long periods from a very young age, in some cases living with parents who themselves suffered from mental illness and other problems. Some of them at times fell in with organized crime as an escape. First and foremost, we work to understand the difficulties the boys have faced and show them how to live independently. Children raised in the shelter are able to set firm goals for the future, gradually finding work and becoming self-reliant.”

“Thanks in part to FIT For Charity Run, we were able to open Carillon Children’s House for Boys and four children have already benefitted from the shelter, with two expected to join us in the near future”, said Ms. Tsuboi.

The funds contributed by FIT For Charity Run covered furniture, fixtures and other necessities, as well as expenses for food, clothes, medication and transportation, and a portion of staffing costs.

Ms. Tsuboi added, “I was very impressed with the number of dedicated volunteers involved, as well as the number of people who brought their families and took part on the day. Through FIT For Charity Run, I hope that all of these people got to know something of the work we do at Carillon Children’s House.”

“Our children also took part in the Run and experienced a strong sense of accomplishment and unity. As they launch independent lives of their own, this will remain a precious memory and I hope FIT For Charity Run continues to attract such impressive support.”
